BIS CERTIFICATION FOR STEEL TUBES
IS 4270:2001

In this competitive scenario, it isn't easy to survive in the market without a standard quality and certified product. BIS license may also be required to sell products in the Indian market.

To get BIS certification and produce a standard quality product, the manufacturer must ensure that their product must follow the specified Indian standard.

Let's take a closer look at IS 4270:2001 for steel tubes used for water wells.

IS 4270:2001 covers steel tubes used for water wells. This standard specifies the specifications for steel tubes used in water wells, such as casing, drive pipe, and housing.

According to IS 4270:2001, The Steel tubes are classified by size, end use (casing pipe, drive pipe), manufacturing process (HFS/CDS/HFW/ERW), type of joints (screwed and socketed butt joints/ screwed flush butt joints/ Plain End), and steel grade (Fe 410, 450).

General requirements for the supply of steel tubes for water must meet standard requirements. The steel used to make tubes and sockets must be produced using a basic open hearth electric or a basic oxygen process. When tested, the tube/pipe sample must meet the standard requirements.

TESTS

The test shall be carried out in accordance with the method specified.

  • Chemical composition
  • Weld seam check
  • Tensile test
  • Flattening test
  • Dimension test
  • Hydrostatics test
  • Alignment test

Labelling and Marking:

Labelling and marking shall be carried out in accordance with IS 4270:2001. Each pipe must be marked with the information as specified in the standard.

The Standard Mark (ISI Mark) shall be marked on each tube, provided that each tube so marked complies with the specification's requirements.
