BIS CERTIFICATION FOR STEEL WIRE FOR REEDS

In this competitive scenario, it isn't easy to survive in the market without a standard quality and certified product. BIS license may also be required to sell products in the Indian market.

To get BIS certification and produce a standard quality product, the manufacturer must ensure that their product must follow the specified Indian standard.

Let's take a closer look at IS 8566:1977 for steel wire for reeds.

IS 8566:1977 covers Steel wire for reeds. This standard specifies the requirements for round steel wires for types of reeds used in the textile industry.

The following type of reeds are covered:

  • Pitch bound wire reeds used in jute and cotton looms
  • All metal reeds used in cotton and silk looms
  • All leasing metal reeds for use in cotton and silk wrapping machines

The general requirements related to material supply shall comply with IS 1387:1967. Steel produced by the open hearth, electric, duplex, basic oxygen, or a combination of these processes shall be used to make the wire. The wire must be drawn to the necessary size in a neat and orderly manner, and it must be free from surface defects.

Steel wire for reed must be supplied in the following sizes: 0.80, 0.85, 0.90, 1.00, 1.15, 1.20, 1.25, 1.30, 1.35, and 1.40.

TESTS

The following test shall be carried out in accordance with the method prescribed.

  • Chemical composition
  • Size and tolerance
  • Tensile test

Packing and Marking:

Each wire coil must be marked with the information as specified in the standard, and the product may also be labelled with a standard mark (ISI Mark). The Manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark). The Bureau grants a license based on a successful assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, production process, and quality control and testing capabilities during a visit to its manufacturing premises.

Conclusion:

If a product falls under the scope of the BIS Conformity Assessment Scheme, All the manufacturers, importers, and foreign entities must obtain BIS ISI Certification. The Bureau may cancel the License if the product fails to meet certification requirements.
