BIS CERTIFICATION FOR WOVEN METALLIC AND GLASS FIBRE TAPE MEASURES OF LENGTH AS PER
IS 1269 (PART 1): 1997

It is challenging to survive in this cutthroat market without a product of standardized quality and certification. To gain market reliance on their products, industries must produce a standard quality product.

The manufacturer must make sure that their product complies with the Indian standard in order to receive BIS certification and produce a high-quality product. BIS license might also be necessary to use the standard ISI Mark and sell products in India.

Let's take a closer look at IS 1269 (Part 1): 1997 for Woven Metallic and Glass Fibre Tape Measures of Length.

This standard specifies the requirements for woven metallic and glass fibre tape measures intended for use where rigid length measurements are not possible. It does not apply to high-precision tapes used in the field of mechanics or geodesy by industry (for example gauge blocks, geodetic wire, precision scales).

As per IS 1269 (Part 1): 1997, Woven Metallic and Glass Fibre Tape Measures of Length are classified as follows:

Nominal Length Accuracy Class
0.5 m to 5 m Class II or Class III
Above 5m to 100m Class I, Class II or Class III

Under normal conditions of use, the materials used must be adequate, strong, stable, and resistant to atmospheric conditions, and they must meet the requirements specified in the standard. The tape major could be made of a suitable fabric or plastic. Tape measures must be well-made, sturdy, and meticulously finished. Clear, regular, and indelible graduated scales are required. The tape must comply with the requirements of the applicable Indian standard. It is necessary to keep an adequately staffed and resourced laboratory in order to carry out the various tests outlined in the standard.

TESTS

The following test shall be carried out as per method specified in the standard.

  • Bend Test
  • Permanent Set Test
  • Sticking Test
  • Water Proofing Test
  • Nominal Length
  • Accuracy class
  • Construction
  • Graduations
  • Coating stability test

Marking

Labelling and marking must be done in accordance with IS 1269 (Part 1) 1997. All products that meet the Indian Standard and are covered by the licence must bear the standard ISI mark. A BIS license for Woven Metallic and Glass Fibre Tape Measures of Length is granted to use the standard mark as per IS 1269 (Part 1) 1997.

To use a standard mark, the manufacturer must first obtain a BIS license for Woven Metallic and Glass Fibre Tape Measures from the Bureau of Indian Standards. The Bureau grants a BIS licence based on a successful assessment of the manufacturing infrastructure, quality control and testing capabilities, and manufacturing process. To ensure that the product meets the requirements of applicable Indian standards, BIS certification for Woven Metallic and Glass Fibre Tape Measures of Lengthis required. BIS certification helps manufacturers gain consumer trust and continue to export and sell their products in the Indian market.
