UPDATES FOR POLYESTER YARN PRODUCTS

Important update regarding mandatory certification requirements applicable to manufacture/imports/sales of product "Polyester Yarn" for Indian market. As you aware, Bureau of Indian Standards has established specific Standard for specific product which specifies certain features of product so that manufacturer can produce the product according to the Indian Standards. Under Scheme-I of Schedule-II, BIS has notified that the Polyester Yarn, list of products mentioned below should conforms to the Standards and it is also compulsory to use Standard mark.

Polyester Yarn Products (Quality Control) Order,2021" for Polyester Yarn Products article through a gazette notification dated 15th April 2021.

The Government of India and The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers in India have come up with the latest regulation on Polyester Yarn under scheme I of Schedule II. There are 6 types of Polyester Yarn products that are regulated as per the document, along with the implementation date and respective Indian standard. The Government of India has strictly ordered to bear the Standard Mark under a licence from the Bureau of Indian Standards for the Polyester Yarn.

Polyester is a category of polymer or synthetic man-made polymer, which is most commonly referred to as a type of polyethylene terephthalate (PET). It is made by mixing ethylene glycol and terephthalic acid. This step is taken by the Government of India and the Bureau of Indian Standards to improve the quality of Polyester Yarn, want to reduce the defects of polyester yarn and to protect the health of Indian Consumer. The standards help fabric and cloth designers and manufacturers in testing textiles to ensure that product they produce is user-friendly or not.

Mandatory BIS Certification & ISI mark certification is required for the product to be stored, imported and sold in India. Not applicable to the products or articles which are meant for export.

NOTE: Any person who violates the provisions of this order will be punished in accordance with the provisions of the said Act as applicable under scheme I of schedule II of BIS.

Implementation Dates: As per the notifications, the related goods/articles shall come under the mandatory BIS registration/certification from dated 14th october,2021

This Gazette Notification was out on 15TH April 2021, and the Government of India has offered 180 days/ 6 months to get your product registered with BIS; after 14th October 2021, you are not allowed to manufacture, sale and import these products of Polyester yarn in India.
