BIS QCO FOR THE AMENDMENT OF COTTON BALES

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Textiles has introduced rules to ensure that Cotton Bales meet a specific quality standard, outlined in the Indian Standard IS 12171:2019. These bales must also carry the Standard Mark, obtained through a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards, following Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

This Order may be referred to as the "Cotton Bales (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2023." It shall come into effect on August 27, 2025.

This Order applies to Cotton Bales but does not cover those intended for export, provided they meet the specifications required by the foreign buyer.

However, it's important to note that these rules do not apply to goods or articles intended for export.

It's important to follow these rules. Those who do not adhere to them can face penalties as per the BIS Act, 2016. This ensures that everyone follows the standards and maintains the quality of cotton bales.
