BIS QCO for the Insulated Flask, Bottles, and Containers for Domestic Use (Insulated Flask for Domestic Use) IS 17790

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued the Insulated Flask, Bottles, and Containers for Domestic Use (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2024, which takes effect upon its publication in the Official Gazette. "

This amendment adds a new proviso to Paragraph 2 of the original Quality Control Order, 2024. Specifically, it exempts goods manufactured or imported before the Order’s commencement from compliance, provided that manufacturers or importers have either obtained or applied for certification from the Bureau. These parties may sell or display existing stock for up to six months from the Order’s commencement, provided they submit a declaration, certified by a Chartered Accountant, to the Bureau.

Under this order, goods or articles categorized as insulated Flask/Bottles/Containers for domestic use must adhere to the corresponding Indian Standard IS 17790:2022 for Insulated Flask for Domestic Use. These products are required to bear the Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards, as per Scheme-1 of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

Importantly, this order does not apply to goods or articles manufactured domestically for export purposes or those produced by enterprises meeting specific criteria outlined by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.

The Bureau of Indian Standards has been designated as the certifying and enforcing authority for the goods or articles covered under this order.

Non-compliance with the provisions of this order will result in penalties under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
