Important update regarding Indian Standard applicable to all existing Licence holders/ New applicants/ manufacturers/ importers/ product sellers for the Protective Textiles (Upholstered composites used for non-domestic furniture) (Quality Control) Order, 2023.

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Textiles introduces the "Protective Textiles (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2022," which will be effective starting October 7, 2023. This amendment is designed to enhance and refine the existing regulatory framework for the quality control of protective textiles, ensuring continued adherence to elevated standards within the industry.

This order is designed to regulate the quality standards for goods or articles, specifically Upholstered composites used for non-domestic furniture, excluding those intended for export.

In adherence to the stipulated standards, the goods or articles, as defined by IS 15768 : 2008 (Textiles - Resistance to ignition of upholstered composites used for non-domestic furniture – Specification), must conform to the corresponding Indian Standard and bear the Standard Mark. Manufacturers are required to obtain a license from the Bureau, following Scheme-I of Schedule-II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The Bureau is designated as both the certifying and enforcing authority for the specified goods or articles, namely Upholstered composites used for non-domestic furniture.

Any individual found in violation of this order will face penalties in accordance with the provisions outlined in the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).

This regulatory framework aims to ensure the safety and quality of Protective Textiles, specifically Upholstered composites used for non-domestic furniture, in the market, emphasizing compliance with established standards for the benefit of consumers and industry stakeholders alike.
