BIS QCO for Key Locks for Security Equipment
OVERVIEW
The Ministry of Commerce & Industry has introduced a quality control directive known as the Key locks for security equipment (Quality Control) Order, 2023.
Starting six months after this directive is published in the Official Gazette, it will become effective. According to this directive, items like key locks must meet the Indian Standard 17566: 2021 requirements. Additionally, these items must carry a special mark called the Standard Mark, which can be used only if the manufacturer has a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards. This license is issued based on Scheme-1 from Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
However, there are some exceptions. This directive doesn't apply to items produced in the country for export purposes.
Furthermore, Key locks for security equipment are exempt from this order until eighteen months after its publication.
The Bureau of Indian Standards will be responsible for both certifying and enforcing this directive for key locks.
If anyone fails to comply with the rules in this directive, they can face penalties as per the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
