Stainless Steel Pipes and Tubes
(Stainless steel welded pipes and tubes for general service)

Stainless steel welded pipes and tubes for general service must conform to the Indian Standard IS 17875:2022. These goods shall bear the Standard Mark under a license granted by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), in accordance with Scheme-1 of Schedule-II of the BIS Conformity Assessment Regulations, 2018. Compliance is mandatory within six months from the publication date of this Order.

The Order does not apply to goods manufactured domestically for export.

It also does not apply to up to 500 kilograms of goods or articles imported for research and development purposes by manufacturers of stainless steel pipes and tubes, per year. These goods must not be sold commercially and may only be disposed of as scrap. Manufacturers must maintain a year-wise record of such goods and provide it to the Central Government.

The Order will not apply to goods or articles manufactured or imported before the commencement of this Order by manufacturers certified by the Bureau, or those who have applied for certification. Such manufacturers may continue to sell, display, or offer for sale their declared stock for up to six months from the implementation date, provided they submit a declaration to the Bureau.
