BIS QCO for Styrene-Butadiene Rubber Latex

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers has issued the Styrene- Butadiene Rubber Latex (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2024. This Order will take effect upon its publication in the Official Gazette.

Key Provisions:

• Exemption:The Order does not apply to carboxylated SBR Latex used in the manufacture of automotive lithium-ion batteries.
• Compliance Standards:All Styrene-Butadiene Rubber Latex products must conform to the relevant Indian Standards IS 11356 : 2020. These products must also bear the Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in accordance with Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
• Authority:The Bureau of Indian Standards will serve as the certifying and enforcing authority for Styrene-Butadiene Rubber Latex products.
• Penalties:Any individual or entity that violates the provisions of this Order will be subject to penalties as outlined in the relevant Act.

This amendment aims to ensure the quality and safety of Styrene- Butadiene Rubber Latex products in the market.
