BIS QCO for the Steel and Steel Products (Cold reduced electrolytic chromium / Chromium oxide – coated steel)

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Steel has issued the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024, exercising powers conferred by sections 16, 17, and sub-section (3) of section 25 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016). This Order supersedes the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2020, and comes into effect upon its publication in the Official Gazette, except for matters conducted prior to this supersession.

Under this Order, applicable to steel and steel products, specifically the Cold reduced electrolytic chromium / Chromium oxide – coated steel, domestically manufactured steel and steel products conforming to any other specification required by foreign buyers for export are exempted.

Each steel and steel product specified under this Order must adhere to the corresponding Indian Standards 12591: 2018 effective immediately upon implementation, and be accompanied by a Test Certificate with the Standard Mark issued by a certified manufacturer under the Bureau of Indian Standards.

The goods and articles, Cold reduced electrolytic chromium / Chromium oxide – coated steel, must adhere to the Indian Standards specified in the corresponding 12591: 2018. They should bear the Standard Mark under a license issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards as per Scheme – I of Schedule – II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. Additionally, each consignment must be accompanied by a test certificate for the input material.

Furthermore, goods and articles meeting the specifications must bear the Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards in accordance with Scheme – I of Schedule – II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The Bureau of Indian Standards is designated as the certifying and enforcing authority for compliance with this Order.

Non-compliance with any provision of this Order is punishable under section 29 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).
