BIS (Quality Control) Amendment Order for the Acetone

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers has introduced the Amendment Order "Acetone (Quality Control) Order, 2020," effective from March 13, 2024.

This order applies to goods or articles, specifically Acetone, and extends to those intended for export. Goods falling under the category of Acetone must conform to the corresponding Indian Standard IS 170:2004, reaffirmed in 2015, and bear the Standard Mark. Manufacturers are required to obtain a license from the Bureau under Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The Bureau is designated as both the certifying and enforcing authority for goods or articles falling under the category of Acetone.

Any contravention of the provisions outlined in this order is subject to penalties under the provisions of the relevant Act.

This regulatory measure aims to ensure the quality and conformity of Acetone in the market, promoting standardized practices and safeguarding consumers and the chemical industry.
