OVERVIEW
The Department of Industries has issued the Electrical Wires, Cables, Appliances and Protection Devices and Accessories (Quality Control Order 2003) Amendment Order, 2010, effective upon its publication in the Official Gazette.
This order pertains to electrical wires, cables, appliances, protection devices, and accessories and defines various terms associated with its implementation. It mandates compliance with specified standards, necessitates certification, and prohibits the manufacture, sale, or distribution of substandard products. “Specified Standard” in relation to electrical wires, cables, appliances and protection devices and accessories means the Indian standard IS: 302-2-3(1992) - (Safety of household and similar electrical appliances -Electric Iron).
Furthermore, it outlines obligations for manufacturers, including the application for licensing and disposal of non-conforming products. The order also grants powers to appropriate authorities to enforce compliance, including the inspection of premises and seizure of non-compliant items.
Additionally, it empowers authorities to call for information, conduct testing of samples, issue directions to manufacturers and dealers, and ensure compliance with the order. Non-compliance, including refusal to furnish information or evade provisions, is strictly prohibited and subject to penalties under relevant laws.
In conclusion, the order sets stringent standards and procedures to ensure the quality and safety of electrical products, thereby safeguarding consumer interests and public safety.
