BIS CERTIFICATION for Safety Of Household And Similar Electrical Appliances – Particular Requirements – Domestic Electric Clothes Washing Machines IS 302 (PART 2/SEC 7): 2010

November 10, 2025 | 3 min Read

IS 302 (Part 2/Section 7): 2010 is an Indian standard that regulates safety requirements for domestic electric washing machines under the Bureau of Indian Standards certification. This electrical appliance standard is crucial in the industry and ensures that washing machines are safe for household use. Washing machines primarily come to households and provide consumers with the convenience of cleaning their clothes properly. Due to the growing market for domestic appliances in India, the demand for safe and reliable washing machines has increased, making the above standard essential for the industry.

In India, it is necessary to obtain a Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification to sell washing machines. This certification is represented by the ISI mark, which ensures product safety for consumers. BIS plays a crucial role in controlling product quality, ensuring compliance with standards, and facilitating smooth import and export processes. Manufacturers and importers need to be aware of BIS requirements so that they can navigate BIS customs clearance and related fees.

OVERVIEW

IS 302 (Part 2/Sec 7): 2010 sets safety standards for domestic electric clothes washing machines, ensuring they are safe and efficient. This standard covers electrical, mechanical, and thermal safety to prevent risks like electric shock and fire. It applies to machines used in homes and similar settings, with voltage limits up to 250 V for single-phase and 480 V for others. It also includes requirements for design, testing, and labeling. Compliance with these standards helps manufacturers provide quality appliances, boosting consumer trust. BIS plays a key role in protecting public health and safety.
