IS 302 Part 1: 2024 Safety Requirements for Household, Commercial, and Skin Beauty Care Electrical Appliances under BIS Certification. These appliances are mainly hair dryers, hair straighteners, and facial steamers. These are found extensively in homes and beauty parlors. Indian markets for skin beauty care appliances are growing rapidly owing to increasing consumer awareness and the demand for personal grooming, and therefore provide avenues for imports and exports; hence, such products require BIS certification upon entering the Indian market.
Before marketing, manufacturers of the equipment are required to obtain BIS certification and ISI mark. Once the QCO order is received from BIS, a customs clearance takes place at BIS, and payment of the BIS certification fee on equipment manufactured in India.

IS 302: Part 1:2024 establishes performance requirements for the safety of household electrical appliances such as skin beauty care devices. The appliances should not have more than 250 volts for a single phase and 415 volts for others. Such standards also extend to appliances utilized in shops or light industries. It provides basic safety but does not address unsupervised children or appliances for medical or industrial use. Equipment used in vehicles or ships may also add specific rules.
