Important update regarding Indian Standard applicable to all existing Licence holders/ New applicants/ manufacturers/ importers/ product sellers for the Legal Metrology- Material Measures of Length (Woven metallic and glass fibre tape measures) (Quality Control) Order, 2023.

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued the 2023 Legal Metrology- Material Measures of Length (Woven metallic and glass fibre tape measures) (Quality Control) Order

It will become effective six months after its publication in the Official Gazette. This order pertains to goods or articles in the field of Legal Metrology, specifically material measures of length.

To adhere to quality standards, these measures must align with the corresponding Indian Standard 1269 (Part 1):1997 and carry the Standard Mark, granted through a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards. The order does not apply to domestically manufactured goods intended for export.

The order's commencement varies for different enterprises:

  • For micro-enterprises as defined in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, it takes effect after twelve months from the notification date.
  • For small enterprises under the same act, it becomes effective after nine months from the notification date.

Enforcement and certification will be overseen by the Bureau. Contravening this order will result in penalties under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
