Important update regarding Indian Standard applicable to all existing Licence holders/ New applicants/ manufacturers/ importers/ product sellers for the Potable Water Bottles (Potable Water Bottles - Copper, Stainless Steel, Aluminum) (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2024.

OVERVIEW

The Potable Water Bottles (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2024, issued by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, shall be known as such and come into effect from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette.

This Amendment Order introduces a new proviso to the Potable Water Bottles (Quality Control) Order, 2024, stating that the Order does not apply to bottles or articles manufactured or imported before its effective date.

Certified manufacturers and importers, or those who have applied for certification, may continue to sell or display such stocks for up to six months from the commencement date, provided they submit a declaration certified by a Chartered Accountant to the Bureau.

Under this order, Potable water bottles must meet the standards outlined in the corresponding Indian Standard IS 17803:2022 for Potable Water Bottles (Copper, Stainless Steel, Aluminium). These bottles must bear the Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards, as per Scheme-1 of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

Exceptions to this order include goods or articles manufactured domestically for export purposes or those produced by enterprises registered under the "Udyam Portal" of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, meeting specific financial criteria.

The Bureau of Indian Standards has been designated as the certifying and enforcing authority for Potable water bottles.

Any violation of this order will result in penalties under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
