BIS QCO for the Steel and Steel Products (Stampings or laminations or cores of transformers (with or without winding))

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Steel has issued the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024, effective from 31st December 2020, which mandates adherence to specific standards for goods or articles like Stampings or laminations or cores of transformers, as outlined herein.

Under this order, Stampings or laminations or cores of transformers (with or without winding) must meet essential requirements as detailed in Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) standards. These include Grain Oriented Electrical Steel Sheet and Strip (IS 3024:2015), Cold rolled non-oriented electrical steel sheet and strip (IS 648:2006), or Fe-based amorphous strip conforming to IS 16585:2016. Compliance with these standards must be validated through a Certificate of Conformity from the Bureau of Indian Standards under Scheme–IV of Schedule–II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The Bureau of Indian Standards is designated as the certifying and enforcing authority for ensuring compliance with this order for both the steel and steel products specified herein.

Any individual or entity found contravening the provisions of this order is subject to punitive measures under section 29 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).
