OVERVIEW

These rules, known as the Battery Waste Management (Amendment) Rules, 2023, come into force upon their publication in the Official Gazette. They are aimed at enhancing the management of battery waste within the country.

These amendments aim to strengthen the management of battery waste, promote recycling, and ensure compliance with Extended Producer Responsibility. The rules outline specific responsibilities for Producers, recyclers, and refurbishes, and introduce mechanisms for transparent reporting and tracking of waste battery management.
