BIS CERTIFICATION FOR MALEIC ANHYDRIDES TECHNICAL
IS 5149:2020

In this competitive scenario, it isn't easy to survive in the market without a standard quality and certified product. BIS license may also be required to sell products in the Indian market.

To get BIS certification and produce a standard quality product, the manufacturer must ensure that their product must follow the specified Indian standard.

Let's take a closer look at IS 5149: 2020 for maleic anhydrides, technical.

Maleic anhydrides, technical are covered under IS 5149:2020. This standard specifies the specifications and the sampling and testing method for maleic anhydride, technical, which are suitable for industrial use.

The substance can be solid or molten. When solid, it must be in the form of white flakes, rods, pallets, or briquettes that are free from any visible impurities. Maleic anhydride is toxic, and hazardous decomposition can occur when heated with caustic or other alkalis, alkaline compounds, or organic bases. As a result, every possible precaution should be used in its handling, use, and storage. Extreme care should be used to avoid contact with the skin, inhalation of its dust and vapour, and when handling maleic anhydride-contaminated equipment. When tested according to the methods described in Annex A of the standard, the material must also meet the requirements stated in the standard.

Tests

The following test shall be carried out for Maleic anhydrides.

  • Description
  • Crystallization point
  • Colour of the Molten Material
  • Maleic Acid Content
  • Maleic Anhydride content
  • Ash content
  • Iron Content

The material must be packed in airtight containers such as bottles, steel barrels, and tank cars. According to IS 5149, each package must be legibly and indelibly marked with the information. The Standard Mark (ISI Mark) shall be marked on each package, provided that the material to which this mark is thus applied meets all of the specification's requirements.
