Latest Updates on Chemical Management and Safety Rules (CMSR) 2022
The Indian government recently circulated the 5th Draft of the Chemical (Management and Safety) Rules, which will replace the existing Manufacture, Storage, and Import of Hazardous Chemicals (MSIHC) Rules 1989 and Chemical Accidents (Emergency Planning, Preparedness, and Response) (CAEPPR) Rules 1996. CMSR is also known as REACH compliance in India. When the REACH regulation comes into effect in India, it will apply to all chemical substance manufacturers and importers.
It is expected that the Indian CMSR will come into force this year and under this rule, all existing and new chemical substances manufactured, imported, or used in India shall be notified, registered by manufacturers, importers, or authorized representatives within 18 months after the rules come into force. It will be the next regulatory challenge for all manufacturers and importers of chemical substances.
