Important update regarding Indian Standard applicable to all existing Licence holders/ New applicants/ manufacturers/ importers/ product sellers for the Bolts, Nuts and Fasteners (Quality Control) Order. It is valid for the Indian market.
BIS UPDATE ON THE BOLTS, NUTS AND FASTENERS
OVERVIEW
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry issued a Quality Control Order for Bolts, Nuts, and Fasteners, specifying adherence to Indian Standards: 1363 (Part 1):2019, 1363 (Part 2): 2018, 1363 (Part 3): 2018, 1364 (Part 1):2018, 1364 (Part 2) :2018, 4621:1975, 5187:1972, 10238:2001, 12427:2001, 3757:1985, 204(Part 2): 1992, 204 (Part 1):1991, 2681:1993, 281:2009, 7534:1985, 1284:1975, 15833:2009, 6623:2004. These must carry the Standard Mark under a BIS license as per Scheme-1 of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
The order titled "The Bolts, Nuts and Fasteners (Quality Control) Order, 2023" is specified in a Gazette Notification dated 21 July 2023.
Effective after six months from the notification, but with different timelines for Micro and Small Enterprises under the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006: nine months for Small Enterprises and twelve months for Micro Enterprises.
Exemptions include domestically made goods for export, imported components, goods for export-oriented production, and items produced by domestic enterprises registered under the "Udyam portal," meeting investment and turnover criteria. These entities are not bound by the Quality Control Order.
NOTE:Any person who contravenes the provisions of this Order shall be punishable under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
