Important Update: Extension of Time for Filing Quarterly and Annual Returns Under the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2024

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has announced an extension for filing quarterly and annual returns under the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2024. This extension comes in response to requests from industry associations for more time to comply with the filing requirements.

Key Details of the Notification:

  • New Deadline: The deadline for filing quarterly and annual returns for the Financial Year 2023-24 has been extended to 31st December 2024. This extension applies to all registered entities under the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2024.
  • E-Waste EPR Portal: Registered entities must continue to file their returns through the E-Waste EPR Portal (https://www.eprtewastecpcb.in). During this extension period, Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Certificate generation and transfer will also be carried out on the EPR Portal.
  • Reason for Extension: The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), after considering the representations from the industry, approved the extension of the deadline till 31st December 2024. This decision was formalized in a letter dated 18th November 2024, following a request from CPCB.
  • Impact on Industry: This extended timeline provides much-needed relief to all entities dealing with e-waste management, allowing them additional time to ensure accurate and compliant filing of returns.

What This Means for Registered Entities:

  • For Entities with Returns Pending: If you have not yet filed your quarterly or annual returns for the Financial Year 2023-24, make sure to do so by 31st December 2024.
  • For EPR Certification: The EPR Certification process, including the generation and transfer of certificates, will continue through the EPR Portal during this period, allowing businesses to remain compliant with their Extended Producer Responsibility obligations.

A Step Towards Simplified Compliance

The extension reflects the CPCB's understanding of the challenges faced by industries in adhering to these requirements within the original deadlines. By extending the deadline, the government has provided additional time to ensure better preparation and smoother compliance for all stakeholders.

For any queries regarding the filing process or the EPR certification, registered entities can visit the official E-Waste EPR Portal or contact the CPCB for further assistance.

Stay updated, and ensure timely filing before the 31st December 2024 deadline to avoid penalties and ensure compliance with the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2024.
