BIS CERTIFICATION FOR HIGH ALUMINA REFRACTORY CEMENT
IS 15895:2011

In this competitive scenario, it isn't easy to survive in the market without a standard quality and certified product. BIS license may also be required to sell products in the Indian market.

To get BIS certification and produce a standard quality product, the manufacturer must ensure that their product must follow the specified Indian standard.

Let’s take a closer look at IS 15895:2011 for high alumina refractory cement.

High alumina refractory cement is covered under IS 15895:2011.This standard specifies the classification, evaluation technique, and properties of HACs of high alumina refractory cement. High alumina refractory cement (HAC) is refractory cement containing calcium aluminates such monocalcium aluminates, di-aluminate as the primary hydraulic constituent.

This cement is made by fusing or sintering a mixture of calcareous materials such as limestone/hydrated lime/dolomitic limestone and argillaceous materials such as Bauxite/Brown or white fused alumina/calcined alumina.

High alumina refractory cement is classified into two types based on impurity content: medium purity and high purity. High purity HACs have a total impurity content that does not exceed 2%. The impurity level of the product is controlled by careful raw material selection, and the alumina content of medium purity is typically less than 50%. High purity grade HACs, like medium purity grade HACs, can contain a wide range of alumina.

The chemical and physical properties of the various grades of medium and high purity HACs are given in the standard. When tested in accordance with the methods specified, high alumina refractory cement shall meet the chemical and physical requirements specified in the standard. A laboratory shall be adequately maintained, in which the various tests shall be carried out according to the methods specified in the standard. The manufacturer must ensure that the cement meets the requirements of this standard.

tests

The sample shall be tested in the manner specified for the test.

  • Pyrometric cone equivalent (PCE)
  • Fineness
  • Chemical composition
  • Strength
  • Setting time

The cement must be stored in a weather-tight package that allows simple access for proper inspection, protects the cement from hydration, and minimizes loss during transportation. Labeling and marking shall be done in accordance with the standard. The BIS Standard Mark (ISI Mark) shall be printed on each bag or drum of High alumina refractory cement or on the label applied to it, provided that the material in each bag or package to which the mark is thus applied meets the specification. The Manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark). The BIS grants a license based on a successful assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, quality control, testing capabilities, and production process.
