BIS CERTIFICATION FOR MICROFINE ORDINARY PORTLAND CEMENT
IS 16993:2018

In this competitive scenario, it isn't easy to survive in the market without a standard quality and certified product. BIS license may also be required to sell products in the Indian market.

To get BIS certification and produce a standard quality product, the manufacturer must ensure that their product must follow the specified Indian standard.
Let's take a closer look at IS 16993:2018 for Microfine Ordinary Portland cement.

IS 16993: 2018 covers Microfine cement. This standard specifies the requirements for Microfine Cement (Microfine Ordinary Portland Cement.

Microfine cement is a Portland cement-based grout made of microfine particles with a specific surface area of more than 800 m2/kg. It has great permeability, strength, and durability as a grout. This standard serves as a guide for users and manufacturers in determining whether or not a product meets the criteria.

Microfine cement is a type of portland cement that contains ultrafine particles and is used to inject into loose soils, rocks, and concrete. Because of its small particle size, microfine cement easily penetrates into tight joints, fissures, and pore spaces, to provide a water-tight grouted rock or soil mass. After adding a water-reducing agent, it can be utilized as a grouting material.

Tests

The following test shall be carried out for microfine cement.

  • Loss of ignition
  • Insoluble residue
  • Particle size
  • Setting time
  • Bleeding test
  • Compressive strength
  • Fineness

A laboratory shall be adequately maintained, in which the various tests shall be carried out according to the methods specified in the standard.

Packing of Microfine Ordinary Portland Cement shall be done as per clause 9 of IS 16993: 2018. The manufacturer must demonstrate that the cement meets the requirements of this standard. The BIS Standard Mark (ISI Mark) shall be printed on each bag or drum of Microfine Ordinary Portland Cement on the label applied to it, provided that the material in each bag or package to which the mark is thus applied meets the specification. The marking must be done in accordance with IS 16993:2018. The Manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark). The BIS grants a license based on a successful assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, quality control and testing capabilities, and production process.
