BIS CERTIFICATION FOR ACID OIL

In this competitive scenario, it isn't easy to survive in the market without a standard quality and certified product. BIS license may also be required to sell products in the Indian market.
As per the Acid Oil (Quality Control) Order, 2022, the Bureau of Indian Standards has made it mandatory to obtain BIS certification for Acid Oil. Acid Oil shall conform to IS 12029:1986 and shall bear the Standard Mark (ISI Mark) under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards as per Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
In order to get a BIS certificate for acid oil, the manufacturer must ensure that Acid oil conforms to applicable Indian standards.
Let's take a closer look at IS 12029:1986 for Acid Oil.
This standard specifies the requirements and the sampling and testing method for acid oil.
The acid oil shall have an iodine value as agreed to between the purchaser and the supplier. The acid oil shall also meet the requirements of the standard when tested in accordance with the method specified.
TESTS
The following tests shall be carried out as per the method specified in the standard.
- Test for free mineral acid
- Test for oxidized fatty acid
- Test for iron content
- Determination of ash
Packing and marking
Packing and marking shall be done as per IS 12029:1986. The material must be packed in appropriate containers, as agreed upon between the purchaser and the supplier. The containers must be securely closed and marked with the name of the material, net mass, batch number or lot number, month and year of manufacture, and the manufacturer's name and trade mark. The container may also be marked with a standard mark (ISI Mark).
The manufacturer must obtain a BIS licence for acid oil from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark). BIS will grant a licence after successfully assessing manufacturing infrastructure, processes, quality control and testing capabilities during a visit to manufacturing premises.

Conclusion:
If a product falls under the scope of the BIS Conformity Assessment Scheme, All the manufacturers, importers, and foreign entities must obtain BIS ISI Certification. The Bureau may cancel the License if the product fails to meet certification requirements.
