BIS CERTIFICATION FOR CARBON STEEL WIRE
IS 1812:1982

In this competitive scenario, it isn't easy to survive in the market without a standard quality and certified product. BIS license may also be required to sell products in the Indian market.

To get BIS certification and produce a standard quality product, the manufacturer must ensure that their product must follow the specified Indian standard.

Let's take a closer look at IS 1812:1982 for carbon steel wire for the manufacture of wood screws.

This standard specifies the requirements for cold-drawn carbon steel wire with a diameter of up to 12.5 mm, which is suitable for the manufacture of wood screws.

The general requirements for the supply of carbon steel wire are outlined in IS 8910:1978. The wire must be drawn from steel produced through an open hearth, electric, duplex, basic oxygen, or a combination of these processes. A sufficient amount of discard must be taken to ensure freedom from harmful pipe and segregation. Steel wires must be drawn to the specified dimensions neatly and cleanly. It must be structurally sound and free from splits, surface flaws, rough, jagged, and imperfect edges, and other harmful surface defects. The carbon steel wire when tested must meet the mechanical properties as specified in the standard.

TESTS

Tests shall be carried out as per standard.

  • Chemical composition
  • Tensile test
  • Bend test
  • Wrapping test

Packing and Marking:

Each coil of wire must be compactly bound and fastened. Each coil of wire must be marked with the grade, size, trademark or manufacturer's name, and date of manufacture. The material may also be marked with a standard mark (ISI mark). Manufacturers must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark).
