BIS CERTIFICATION FOR CAUSTIC SODA

In this competitive scenario, it isn't easy to survive in the market without a standard quality and certified product. BIS license may also be required to sell products in the Indian market.

To get BIS certification and produce a standard quality product, the manufacturer must ensure that their product must follow the specified Indian standard.

IS 252:2013 covers Caustic Soda. This standard specifies the requirements and the sampling and testing methods for pure and technical caustic soda, and it encompasses the material in lye solid and form.

GRADES

The material shall be classified into two grades:

  1. Pure: for use in the rayon and cosmetic industries
  2. Technical: for use in the textile, soap, vegetable oil refining, paper, and other industries.

The material must be provided in the form of lye or solid (including flakes, blocks, sticks, and pellets). The material must be clean and free of foreign matter, dirt, and other visible impurities. When tested according to the prescribed methods, the material must meet the requirements of the standard on a dry basis.

The test shall be carried out in accordance with the method prescribed.

  • Sodium Carbonate
  • Sodium Hydroxide
  • Chlorides
  • Silicates

  • Matter insoluble in water

Packing and Marking:

Packing and marking must be done in accordance with IS 252:2013. The material shall be packed in polyethylene bags, polyethylene lined gunny bags, or steel drums, unless otherwise agreed upon by the purchaser and the supplier. The solution must be delivered in tankers or tank cars. Each container must be securely closed and bear the information specified in the standard.

The Standard Mark (ISI Mark) shall be marked on Caustic Soda packages/containers or printed on the label applied to it, provided that the product so marked meets the specifications. The manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark. The BIS issues a license based on a successful evaluation of the manufacturing infrastructure, quality control, testing capabilities, and manufacturing process.

If a product falls under the scope of the BIS Conformity Assessment Scheme, All the manufacturers, importers, and foreign entities must obtain BIS ISI Certification. The Bureau may cancel the License if the product fails to meet certification requirements.
