BIS CERTIFICATION FOR FERROSILICON
IS 1110:1990

In this competitive scenario, it isn't easy to survive in the market without a standard quality and certified product. BIS license may also be required to sell products in the Indian market.

To get BIS certification and produce a standard quality product, the manufacturer must ensure that their product must follow the specified Indian standard.

Let's take a closer look at IS 1110:1990 for Ferrosilicon.

This standard specifies the requirements for ferrosilicon, which is used in the ferrous industry. This standard covers 12 grades of ferrosilicon.

IS 1387:1967 specifies the general requirements for supplying materials to this specification. Ferrosilicon must be delivered in consignment using one of the methods specified in clause 3.3 of the standard. Each batch of materials must meet the chemical composition requirements specified in the standard. The material must be relatively free of extraneous contaminations such as slag and non-metallic inclusions etc.

TESTS

The following tests shall be carried out for ferrosilicon.

  • Constitution of Consignment
  • Chemical composition
  • Size
  • Extraneous contamination

Packing and Marking:

Packing and marking shall be done as per IS 1110:1990. The material must be packed in appropriate containers. The material must be marked with the following information: source of manufacture, grade designation, cast or lot number and size, quantity, date of manufacture, and shelf life. The material may also be marked with a standard mark (ISI mark).

Manufacturers must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark).
