BIS CERTIFICATION FOR FOLLOW UP FORMULA COMPLEMENTARY FOODS
IS 15757:2007

In this competitive scenario, it isn't easy to survive in the market without a standard quality and certified product. BIS license may also be required to sell products in the Indian market.

To get BIS certification and produce a standard quality product, the manufacturer must ensure that their product must follow the specified Indian standard.

Let’s take a closer look at IS 15757:2007 for follow up formula-complementary foods.

This standard specifies the requirements, testing methods, and sampling procedures for follow-up formula complementary foods intended for infants in the weaning stage after the age of six months and up to the age of two years.

A product made by spray drying of cow or buffalo milk, or a combination of the two, is a follow-up formula-complementary food. After the age of six months and up to the age of two years, follow-up formula is used as a liquid supplement for a complementary diet for an infant. The follow-up formula complementary can be used directly or diluted with water before feeding when in liquid form. In powdered form, it requires water for preparation, and it must be free of lumps and uniform in appearance.

Follow-up formula-complementary food must be starch-free, with no added colour or flavour. It must be clean and free of dirt, foreign matter, and scorched particles. It must also be free of any material that is hazardous to human health. The nutrients specified in the standard must be present in the follow-up formula.

When necessary, the product may also contain other nutrients to ensure that it is suitable for use as part of a mixed feeding scheme after the age of six months. When any nutrients are added, the food must contain at least the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) amounts of that nutrient.

All ingredients used must be clean, high-quality, safe, and suitable for infant consumption. The material must be manufactured and packed in hygienic conditions. The product must meet the requirements specified in the standard.
