BIS CERTIFICATION FOR HARD DRAWN STEEL WIRE FABRIC
IS 1566:1982

In this competitive scenario, it isn't easy to survive in the market without a standard quality and certified product. BIS license may also be required to sell products in the Indian market.

To get BIS certification and produce a standard quality product, the manufacturer must ensure that their product must follow the specified Indian standard.

Let's take a closer look at IS 1566: 1982 for Hard-drawn Steel Wire Fabric for Concrete Reinforcement.

This standard specifies the requirements for hard-drawn steel wire fabric, which comprises hard-drawn steel wire with cross wires electrically welded to it and used as concrete reinforcement.

The hard-drawn steel wire fabric shall be two types:

  1. Oblong mesh
  2. Square mesh

The wire used in the manufacture of fabric must be hard-drawn steel wire that meets all requirements of the appropriate standard and is suitable for welding. The fabric shall be formed by spacing the main and the cross wires, which shall be fixed at their point of intersection by electric welding to be sufficiently stable to withstand normal handling in transport and during concreting, without displacement beyond the limits specified. It shall be fabricated and finished. Butt joints in the fabric wires shall be electrically welded, and the joints shall be staggered.

Mesh sizes, weight, and sizes of wires for square and oblong welded wire fabric shall be as agreed to between the purchaser and the manufacturer. All wires of the finished fabric shall meet the minimum requirements for physical properties as prescribed in the standard.

TESTS

Tests shall be carried out in accordance with the specified standard.

  • Quality of steel
  • Manufacturer
  • Dimensions (Mesh size, weight and size of wire)
  • Sizes of sheets or Rolls
  • Tensile Test
  • Bend Test

Labelling & Marking:

The marking must be done in accordance with IS 1566:1982. When the material is delivered in bundles, the manufacturer must fasten a metal tag with a suitable identification mark to each bundle. The standard mark (ISI Mark) may be applied to each bundle containing the fabric. The Manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark). The Bureau grants a license based on a successful assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, production process, and quality control and testing capabilities during a visit to its manufacturing premises.
