BIS CERTIFICATION FOR HEALD WIRE
IS 8565:1977

In this competitive scenario, it isn't easy to survive in the market without a standard quality and certified product. BIS license may also be required to sell products in the Indian market.

To get BIS certification and produce a standard quality product, the manufacturer must ensure that their product must follow the specified Indian standard.

Let’s take a closer look at IS 8565: 1977 for Heald wire.

This standard specifies the requirements of round steel wires for Heald for the following applications:

  1. Healds for jacquard harness;
  2. Healds for dobby harness;
  3. Mail wire healds inset for jute weaving;
  4. Contact wire healds for jute weaving.
  5. Healds for weaving cotton, silk, woollen, and worsted; and
  6. Twin wire healds used for frame weaving.

Steel heald wire is a very high quality, high carbon steel wire that is used to make the heald, a part of the harness on a weaving loom. Steel produced by the open hearth, electric duplex, basic oxygen, or a combination of these processes shall be used to make the wire.

The general requirements for the supply of steel wire shall be specified in a standard. The wire shall be supplied in coils. The wire must be supplied in the sizes as specified in the standard. The material must be tested to ensure that it complies with the requirements of the standards.

TESTS

Tests shall be carried out in accordance with the method specified.

  • Tensile test
  • Dead wire test

Packing and Marking:

The wire shall be supplied in oiled/unoiled condition with appropriate packing as agreed upon between the purchaser and the manufacturer. Each coil of wires must be compactly bound and have a tag marked with the manufacturer's name or trade mark, the type and size of wires, the lot number, and the mass of the coil. The coil may also bear an ISI mark.

The Manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark. The Bureau grants a license based on a successful assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, production process, and quality control and testing capabilities during a visit to its manufacturing premises.

If a product falls under the scope of the BIS Conformity Assessment Scheme, All the manufacturers, importers, and foreign entities must obtain BIS ISI Certification. The Bureau may cancel the License if the product fails to meet certification requirements.
