BIS CERTIFICATION FOR HEXANE FOOD GRADE
IS 3470:2017

In this competitive scenario, it isn't easy to survive in the market without a standard quality and certified product. BIS license may also be required to sell products in the Indian market.

To get BIS certification and produce a standard quality product, the manufacturer must ensure that their product must follow the specified Indian standard.

Food-grade hexane is made from raw hexane feed by reducing the unsaturated content with sulfolane. The material shall be a petroleum distillate fraction containing a high proportion of n hexane. It shall be a clear colourless liquid with a characteristic petroleum-like odour that is free of sediment, suspended matter, and moisture. The material shall also meet the requirements outlined in the standard.

Tests

The following test shall be carried out in accordance with the method prescribed.

  • Refractive index
  • Distillation test
  • Non volatile residue
  • Sulphur content test
  • Aromatics test

Packaging and labelling must be done in accordance with the standards. Each container must bear the warning label 'FLAMMABLE,' as well as the corresponding symbol for labelling dangerous goods.
