High Ankle Tactical Boots with PU Rubber Sole are covered under IS 17012:2018. The Bureau of Indian Standards adopted this Indian Standard after the Chemical Division Council had approved the draft finalized by the Footwear Sectional Committee.

This standard prescribes constructional and performance requirements of high ankle tactical boots with PU-rubber sole, which are used by paramilitary forces/police forces. Rightly constructed and designed tactical boots are mandatory for the best performance of armed forces. This standard specifies requirements, tests, and sampling methods for high ankle tactical boots with polyurethane (PU) midsole and rubber outsole.

The uppers of the boots defined in this standard are made of chrome-tanned barton printed leather, while the toe and counter are made of smooth leather. The boots are manufactured with a cleated rubber outsole with an anti-slip design. The tactical boots shall conform to the physical requirements specified in the standard, and the design of the boots shall conform to design C of IS 15298 (Part 4). The boots shall be made of PU midsole and vulcanized rubber outsole by direct moulding process with Strobel stitching.

Test:

The following tests shall be carried out on finished footwear.

  • Visual and Tactile Examination
  • Dimensional characteristics Test
  • Physical and Destructive Tests

The product must satisfy specified physical or chemical requirements or performance characteristics. Each boot shall be permanently marked with size, Manufacturer’s name and brand, manufacturing year, shelf life, standard number. The standard mark (ISI Mark) may also be applied to the shoes. The Manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark). The BIS grants a license based on a successful assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, quality control and testing capabilities, and production process.

If a product falls under the scope of the BIS Conformity Assessment Scheme, All the manufacturers, importers, and foreign entities must obtain BIS ISI Certification. The Bureau may cancel the License if the product fails to meet certification requirements.
