BIS CERTIFICATION FOR LAURIC ACID

In this competitive scenario, it isn't easy to survive in the market without a standard quality and certified product. BIS license may also be required to sell products in the Indian market.

As per Lauric Acid (Quality Control) Order, 2022, the Bureau of Indian Standards has made it mandatory to obtain BIS certification for Lauric Acid. Lauric acid shall conform to IS 10931:1984 and shall bear the Standard Mark (ISI Mark) under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards as per Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

In order to get a BIS certificate for lauric acid, the manufacturer must ensure that Lauric Acid conforms to applicable Indian standards.

Let's take a closer look at IS 10931:1984 for lauric acid.

This Standard specifies the requirements and the sampling and testing method for lauric acid. The material shall be of three grades: Grade 1, Grade 2, and Grade 3.

Lauric acid shall be the product obtained by splitting lauric acid-rich oils such as coconut oil, palm kernel oil, etc., and fractionating the fatty acids appropriately. It must be clear and free of adulterants, sediments, suspended matter, and other foreign matter when melted. Lauric acid may also contain trace amounts of C8-C18 fatty acids. The material shall also meet the requirements of the standard.

Tests shall be carried out as per the method specified in the standard.

Packing and marking

Packing and marking shall be done as per IS 10931:1984. The material must be delivered in appropriate containers, as agreed upon between the purchaser and the supplier. The containers must be securely closed and marked with the name and grade of material, net mass, batch number or lot number, month and year of manufacture, and the manufacturer's name and trade mark. The container may also be marked with a standard mark (ISI Mark).

The manufacturer must obtain a BIS certification for lauric acid from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark). BIS will grant a licence after successfully assessing manufacturing infrastructure, manufacturing processes, quality control and testing capabilities during a visit to manufacturing premises.
