BIS CERTIFICATION FOR LABORATORY GLASSWARE
IS 1381 (PART 1): 2003

It is difficult to compete in this competitive market without a standardized quality and Certified product. To create market dependence on their products, industries must produce a standard quality product as per Indian standards. A BIS license may also be required to use the standard ISI Mark and sell products in India. Manufacturers must ensure that their product meets the Indian standard in order to receive a BIS license and produce a high-quality product.

Let's take a closer look at IS 1381 (Part 1): 2003 for Narrow-Necked Boiling Flasks.

IS 1381 (Part 1): 2003 specifies requirements and dimensions for an internationally acceptable series of conical flasks and flat-bottom and round-bottom flasks for general laboratory purposes. The flasks are provided for direct use in a laboratory, fitting together with other equipment for general laboratory purposes; further, work up to other products.

Flasks must be made of borosilicate glass 3.3 in accordance with ISO 3585 and shall be free of visible defects and internal stress that might impair the flask's performance. When placed on a level surface, the flasks must stand vertically without rocking or spinning. The dimensions of the flask must be as specified in the applicable standard. It is required to maintain a lab with the necessary equipment, where the various tests outlined in the standard shall be carried out as per the techniques outlined in the standard.

According to Laboratory Glassware QCO, "Laboratory Glassware" shall have to comply with the corresponding Indian Standard and bear the standard mark (ISI Mark) under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards as per Scheme- I of Schedule- II of BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations 2018, and cannot be produced, traded/sold, stocked, or imported unless they bear the ISI Mark.

Marking

It is required to label and mark products in compliance with e IS 1381 (Part 1): 2003. Each pack must be marked with BIS license No. and BIS website details.The product shall also be marked with the BIS standard ISI Mark.In order to use the standard ISI mark, the manufacturer must first get a BIS license forNarrow-Necked Boiling Flasks from the Bureau of Indian Standards. Products that fulfill relevant Indian requirements are granted a BIS license by the Bureau.

Conclusion:

If a product falls under the scope of the BIS Conformity Assessment Scheme, All the manufacturers, importers, and foreign entities must obtain BIS ISI Certification. The Bureau may cancel the License if the product fails to meet certification requirements.
