BIS CERTIFICATION FOR POLYALUMINIUM CHLORIDE
IS 15573:2018

In this competitive scenario, it isn't easy to survive in the market without a standard quality and certified product. BIS license may also be required to sell products in the Indian market.

To get BIS certification and produce a standard quality product, the manufacturer must ensure that their product must follow the specified Indian standard.

Let's take a closer look at IS 15573:2018 for Polyaluminium Chloride.

IS 15573:2018 covers Polyaluminium chloride. The Bureau of Indian Standards adopted this Indian standard after the chemical division council approved the draft finalized by the water quality sectional committee.

This standard specifies the requirements, characteristics, sampling, and testing methods for polyaluminium chloride liquid and powder. Polyaluminium chloride is an effective coagulant used to rapidly remove microscopic suspended matter in natural surface waters with a wide range of turbidity, temperature, and pH. It can also be used to remove algae.

The material shall be in the form of a liquid or powder. There are two types:

  1. Medium basicity
  2. High basicity. Both grades are effective coagulants for the treatment of low to high turbidity surface raw water for drinking purposes.

Polyaluminium chloride must be a colourless to pale yellow liquid that is hazy to transparent and free of organic contaminants. Polyaluminium chloride powder should be pale yellow in colour and free of organic contaminants. The material must also meet the requirements specified in the standard.

TESTS

The following test shall be carried out in accordance with the method specified in the standard.

  • Specific gravity
  • Bulk density
  • pH of 5% solution
  • Relative basicity
  • Insoluble matter
  • Determination of Aluminium Oxide
  • Chloride
  • Viscosity

Packing and Marking:

Packing and Marking shall be done in accordance with IS 15573:2018. The liquid material must be packed or transported in acid-resistant rubber or plastic-lined tankers. The container must be labeled with the information as specified in the standard. The Standard Mark (ISI Mark) shall be marked on each container of Polyaluminium chloride, provided that the material so marked meets all of the requirements of the specification. The Manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark). The BIS grants a license based on a successful assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, quality control, testing capabilities, and production process.
