Polyester continuous filament fully drawn yarns are covered under IS 17261:2022. The Bureau of Indian Standards adopted this Indian Standard after the Textile Division Council approved the draft finalized by the Man-Made Fibres, Cotton, and Their Products Sectional Committee. This standard defines the requirements for all types of virgin polyester fully drawn yarns (FDY) for various end uses.

The FDY must meet the standard's construction and performance requirements. The polyester FDY may also meet the ecological requirements specified in the standard. The yarn must be free of major flaws. Fully drawn yarn (FDY) shall be classified as full dull, semi-dull, bright, or super bright based on lustre and shall meet the requirements specified in the standard when tested using the method defined in Annex G of the standard.

Packing and Marking:

Packing and marking shall be done in accordance with IS 17261:2022. The polyester FDY must be wound over bobbins or cheeses with a maximum of 14 kg of yarn per bobbin/cheese. Each carton of FDY must be labelled with the information specified in the standard.

Conforming to the requirements of this standard, the product may be certified under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 and the Rules and Regulations framed thereunder, and the product(s) may be marked with the Standard Mark (ISI Mark). The Manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark). The BIS grants a license based on a successful assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, quality control, testing capabilities, and production process.
