BIS CERTIFICATION FOR POTASSIUM CARBONATE ANHYDROUS
IS 7129:2021

In this competitive scenario, it isn't easy to survive in the market without a standard quality and certified product. BIS license may also be required to sell products in the Indian market.

To get BIS certification and produce a standard quality product, the manufacturer must ensure that their product must follow the specified Indian standard.

Let's take a closer look at IS 7129:2021 for Potassium Carbonate, Anhydrous.

IS 7129:2021 covers Potassium Carbonate, Anhydrous. This standard specifies the requirements and sampling and testing method for potassium carbonate, anhydrous.

Potassium carbonate is used as a dehydrating agent that can also be used to make other potassium salts like chlorates and chromates. It is also used in ceramics, explosives, tanning, electroplating, fertilizers, mineral water, shampoo preparation, process engraving and lithography, soft soaps, textile dyeing, bleaching and finishing oils, and photography.

The substance must be a white deliquescent crystalline powder. When tested according to the methods prescribed in Annex A of this standard, the material must also meet the requirements specified in the standard.

TESTS

The following test shall be carried out in accordance with the method prescribed.

  • Description
  • Size
  • Total Alkalinity
  • Potassium bicarbonate or Free Alkali
  • Sulphates
  • Chlorides
  • Matter insoluble in water
  • Heavy Metals
  • Loss on heating
  • Magnesium and Calcium

Packing and Marking:

Packing and Marking shall be done in accordance with IS 7129:2021. The material must be packed in clean, dry HDPE or PP bags with an HM-HDPE liner. The Standard Mark (ISI Mark) shall be marked on the product's container provided that the material so marked meets all specification requirements.
