BIS CERTIFICATION FOR PRECIPITATED BARIUM CARBONATE, TECHNICAL

This standard specifies the requirements and the sampling and testing method for precipitated barium carbonate, technical.

The material shall be of two grades:

  • Grade 1: Grade 1 is intended for use in electro ceramics.
  • Grade 2: Grade 2 is for use in the production of barium salts, sulphation removal, as a flux in the ceramic industry, heat treatment compounds, glassware, high resistance steel, and as a rat poisoning compound.

The substance must be in the form of a white powder or a friable mass. When tested, the material must meet the requirements specified in the standard. A laboratory in which the various tests are performed according to the methods specified in the standard must be adequately maintained.

TESTS

Some of the tests shall be as follows:

  • Determination of Barium
  • Determination of carbonates
  • Determination of moisture
  • Test for free alkali
  • Determination of water-soluble sulphides

Packing and Marking:

The material must be packed in jute bags lined with polyethylene films or HDPE bags. The bags must be tightly closed. The bags must bear the name and grade of the material, the gross and net mass, the date of manufacture, the batch number, poison, the name of the manufacturer, and his trademark. The product may also bear a standard mark (ISI Mark).

The Bureau of Indian Standards grants BIS certificates to use the standard mark (ISI Mark) under the product certification scheme after confirming that the product meets the requirements of Indian standards. The manufacturer must obtain a BIS license for Precipitated Barium Carbonate, technical from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark).
