BIS CERTIFICATION FOR PYRIDINE
IS 8058:2018

In this competitive scenario, it isn't easy to survive in the market without a standard quality and certified product. BIS license may also be required to sell products in the Indian market.

To get BIS certification and produce a standard quality product, the manufacturer must ensure that their product must follow the specified Indian standard.

Let's take a closer look at IS 8058:2018 for Pyridine.

IS 8058:2018 covers Pyridine. This standard specifies the requirements and sampling and test method for pyridine.

Pyridine is used as a solvent in the dyestuff and pharmaceutical industries and a laboratory reagent. It is also used in the production of drug intermediates.

There will be three material grades:

  1. Grade 1: For use as a reagent in analytical chemistry and in special pharmaceutical preparations
  2. Grade 2: For use in the production of drug intermediates
  3. Grade 3: Primarily used in the dyestuff industry as a solvent

The material must be a clear liquid that is free of foreign matter. It must also have the disgraceful odour of pyridine. The substance must be miscible with water, alcohol, chloroform, and ether.

When tested according to the method prescribed, the material must also meet the requirements specified in this standard.

TESTS

The following test shall be carried out in accordance with the method prescribed in the standard.

  • Solubility
  • Identity and purity
  • Relative Density
  • Pyridine content
  • Boiling Range
  • Residue on evaporation
  • Ammonium compounds
  • Chlorides
  • Copper
  • Oxidizable substances
  • Moisture content

Packing and Marking:

Packing and Marking shall be done in accordance with IS 8058:2018. The material must be packed in mild steel drums, and the Standard Mark (ISI Mark) shall be marked on the product's container provided that the material so marked meets all requirements of the specification.

Each container must be labelled with the information as specified in the standard. The Manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark). The BIS grants a license based on a successful assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, quality control, testing capabilities, and production process.
