BIS CERTIFICATION FOR RAPID HARDENING PORTLAND CEMENT

In this competitive scenario, it isn't easy to survive in the market without a standard quality and certified product. BIS license may also be required to sell products in the Indian market.

To get BIS certification and produce a standard quality product, the manufacturer must ensure that their product must follow the specified Indian standard.

Let’s take a closer look at IS 8041:1990 for Rapid Hardening Portland Cement.

This standard specifies the chemical and physical requirements and the manufacturing process of rapid hardening Portland cement.

Rapid hardening Portland cement shall be produced by intimately mixing calcareous and argillaceous materials and other silica, alumina, or iron oxide bearing materials, burning them at clinkering temperatures, and grinding the resulting clinker to produce a cement capable of meeting this specification. After burning, no material other than gypsum (natural or chemical), water, or both, and not more than one percent of air-entraining agents or other non-harmful agents shall be added.

Rapid hardening Portland cement shall comply with the physical and chemical requirements specified in the standard when tested as per the methods specified. The manufacturer must ensure that the cement meets the requirements of this standard.

The test shall be carried out in accordance with the method specified.

  • Loss on Ignition
  • Fineness
  • Setting Time

Packing and marking:

Packing and marking shall be done as per the requirements of IS 8041:1990. The cement must be packed in bags marked with the manufacturer's name or trademark and the net mass of the cement. The bags may also mark with the Standard Mark (ISI Mark). The manufacturer shall obtain a BIS license for rapid hardening Portland cement from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark). BIS will grant a license after conforming to all the relevant requirements of applicable Indian standards.

Conclusion:

If a product falls under the scope of the BIS Conformity Assessment Scheme, All the manufacturers, importers, and foreign entities must obtain BIS ISI Certification. The Bureau may cancel the License if the product fails to meet certification requirements.
