BIS CERTIFICATION FOR SCREWING TAPS
IS 6171:1992

This standard specifies the technical supply conditions for screwing taps used in general engineering. Screwing taps are classified based on the number of thread flutes and the shape of the shank.

Screwing taps must be made of the material specified in the standard. The hardness of the screwing taps must be as specified in the standard. This standard specifies the general requirements for screwing taps. Screwing taps must meet the general requirements of this standard. Unless otherwise specified, all screwing taps must have straight flutes. All dimensions must be in accordance with standards.

Screwing taps must be packed and labelled in accordance with IS 6171: 1992. Each screwing tap or set of screwing taps must be wrapped in non-absorbent paper before being packaged in a carton. The specified information must be printed on the carton.

The Manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark). The Bureau grants a license based on a successful assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, production process, and quality control and testing capabilities during a visit to its manufacturing premises.
