BIS CERTIFICATION FOR SELF CLOSING TAPS
IS 1711:1984

In this competitive scenario, it isn't easy to survive in the market without a standard quality and certified product. BIS license may also be required to sell products in the Indian market.

To get BIS certification and produce a standard quality product, the manufacturer must ensure that their product must follow the specified Indian standard.

Let's take a closer look at IS 1711:1984 for self-closing taps.

This standard specifies the requirements for self-closing taps, either with or without a stuffing box.

Self-closing taps shall be of the following nominal sizes:

  1. 15 mm
  2. 20 mm

This Standard specifies the materials that can be used to make the body and component parts of self-closing taps. All castings must be structurally sound and free of laps, blow holes, and pittings. The external and internal surfaces of the castings must be clean, smooth, and sand-free. No casting shall be burned, plugged, stopped, or patched, and casting shall be neatly dressed.

The body must be strong and durable, and it must be able to withstand rough handling. A spring-loaded spindle or another equally effective device shall operate the valve. All machining must be done in such a way that the parts are true to shape and in proper alignment when assembled. All machined surfaces must be finished smoothly. The tap shall be tested in accordance with the specified standard.

Marking:

Each tap shall be clearly and permanently marked with the manufacturer’s name or trade mark, the nominal size of the tap. The taps may also be marked with the standard (ISI) mark. The Manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark). The BIS grants a license based on a successful assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, quality control and testing capabilities, and production process during a visit to its manufacturing premises.
