To get BIS certification and produce a standard quality product, the manufacturer must ensure that their product must follow the specified Indian standard.

Let's take a closer look at IS 6529:1996 for stainless steel blooms, billets, and slabs used for forgings.

This standard specifies the requirements for stainless steel blooms, billets, and slabs for forgings.

The method of manufacturing steel and products is at the discretion of the manufacturer unless agreed otherwise in order.

A laboratory shall be properly equipped and staffed, and where various tests shall be performed in accordance with the methods specified in the specification. IS 8910 specifies the general requirements for material supply. The material must meet the requirements specified in the standard, when tested.

the following test shall be carried out as per the method specified in the standard.

  • Freedom from Defects
  • Chemical composition
  • Hardness test
  • Dimensional Tolerance
  • Corrosion resistance test

Marking shall be done as per IS 6529:1996. Each bloom, billet, and slab shall be marked with the cast number and steel designation. The standard mark (ISI Mark) may also be applied to the material. The manufacturer must obtain a BIS license for stainless steel blooms, billets, and slabs for forgings from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark).
