IS 8910:1978 specifies general requirements for the supply of steel wires. Steel must be delivered semi-killed or killed. Steel wires must be drawn accurately and cleanly to the dimensions and tolerances specified. The finished material must be free of surface and internal flaws that would be detrimental to the material's end-use.

TESTS

Tests shall be carried out in accordance with the specified standard.

  • Chemical composition
  • Freedom from defects
  • Dimensional tolerances
  • Heat Treatment
  • Tensile test
  • Shear strength
  • Bend test

Packing and Marking:

Packing and marking shall be done as per IS 7557:1982. Each coil of wire shall be compactly bound and fastened, and a metal tag bearing the manufacturer's name or trade mark, cast number, diameter, mass, and condition of the wire shall be attached. Standard Mark (ISI Mark) may also be applied to the material.
