BIS CERTIFICATION FOR STEEL WIRE UMBRELLA RIBS

In this competitive scenario, it isn't easy to survive in the market without a standard quality and certified product. BIS license may also be required to sell products in the Indian market.

To get BIS certification and produce a standard quality product, the manufacturer must ensure that their product must follow the specified Indian standard.

Let’s take a closer look at IS 4223:1975 Steel wire for umbrella ribs.

The requirements for carbon steel round and flat wire used for umbrella ribs are covered by this standard. This standard does not address the wire requirements for hollow U-shaped ribs.

There will be three-wire grades designated as Grades 1, 2, and 3.

The steel shall be produced using an open hearth, an electric, a duplex, a basic oxygen process, or a combination of these processes. All finished wires must be well and cleanly drawn to the specified dimensions. The wire must be in good condition, with no splits, surface flaws, rough, jagged, imperfect edges, or other harmful surface defects. The wire must be supplied in any of the standard sizes. The general requirements for material supply shall be in accordance with IS 1387:1967.

Tests shall be carried out in accordance with the specified standard.

  • Chemical composition
  • Freedom from defects
  • Tensile test
  • Torsion test
  • Reverse bend test
  • Straightness test
  • Deflection test

Packing and Marking:

Packing and marking shall be done as per Indian standards. Steel wires for umbrella ribs must be supplied in coils and wrapped in gunny bags unless otherwise specified by the purchaser. Each coil or bundle of wire must be compactly bound and fastened and must bear a tag marking the size, length, and mass of the wires, as well as the name or trade-mark of the manufacturer.

Standard Mark may also be applied to the material. Manufacturers must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark). The Bureau grants a license based on a successful assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, production process, and quality control and testing capabilities during a visit to its manufacturing premises.

If a product falls under the scope of the BIS Conformity Assessment Scheme, All the manufacturers, importers, and foreign entities must obtain BIS ISI Certification. The Bureau may cancel the License if the product fails to meet certification requirements.
