BIS CERTIFICATION FOR TRAPEZOIDAL STEEL WIRES
IS 12262:1988

In this competitive scenario, it isn't easy to survive in the market without a standard quality and certified product. BIS license may also be required to sell products in the Indian market.

To get BIS certification and produce a standard quality product, the manufacturer must ensure that their product must follow the specified Indian standard.

Let's take a closer look at IS 12262:1988 for trapezoidal steel wire.

This standard specifies the requirements for trapezoidal steel wire used in the manufacture of spring washers.

The wire must be drawn from steel that has been produced using an open hearth, electric, duplex, basic oxygen, or a combination of these processes. The wire must be well and cleanly drawn to the specified dimensions. The surface of the wire must be smooth and free from rust, die marks, scratches, seams, pits, and other flaws.

General material supply requirements must be in accordance with the standard. In general, the wire must be supplied in the form of a single continuous length that has been properly coiled. The wire must not be kinked or wavy. The wire's size and tolerance on dimensions must be as specified in the standard. The wire must meet the standard's physical and chemical requirements.

Tests

Tests shall be done in accordance with the method specified.

  • Tensile strength
  • Wrapping test
  • Micro structure
  • Chemical test

Packing and Marking:

The material must be packed in such a way that corrosion does not attack the material during transit. Each coil of wire must be labelled with the information as specified in the standard. The standard mark (ISI Mark) may also be applied to the material.

The Manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark). The Bureau grants a license based on a successful assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, production process, and quality control and testing capabilities during a visit to its manufacturing premises.
