BIS CERTIFICATION FOR UPVC INJECTION MOULDED FITTINGS
IS 14735:1999

If we are a manufacturer, we always want to increase our market share and brand values. In this competitive scenario, it isn't easy to survive in the market without a standard quality and certified product.

To get BIS certification, ensure that your product must follow the specified Indian standard for that product. Let's take a closer look at IS 14735:1999.

UPVC injection moulded fittings for soil, and waste discharge systems inside and outside the buildings including ventilation and rainwater system are covered under IS 14735:1999.

The Bureau of Indian Standards adopted this Indian Standard after the Civil Engineering Division Council approved the draft finalized by the Plastic Piping System Sectional Committee. This standard specifies the requirements for Unplasticized Polyvinyl Chloride (UPVC) injection moulded fittings for joining with solvent cement or an elastomeric sealing ring to UPVC pipes for soil and waste discharge systems inside and outside buildings, including ventilation and rainwater systems, as specified in IS 13592.

The materials from which the fittings are produced shall consist essentially of polyvinyl chloride, to which may be added only those additives that are needed to facilitate the manufacture of sound and durable fittings of good surface finish, mechanical strength, and opacity under conditions of use, together with such pigments as are necessary to meet the specified requirements.

In view of the overall scenario in India, a minimum of 2.5 percent of titanium dioxide is considered necessary to be included in the material composition of UPVC pipes to safeguard their quality.

The fitting with pipe assembly shall be tested for water tightness, sulphated ash content, and titanium dioxide content by spectrophotometry. The fitting shall be subjected to stress relief, impact, acceptance, and type tests.

Each fitting shall mark with the following:

  1. Manufacturer's name or trade-mark.
  2. Nominal diameter of fitting and angle

The batch number must be marked on the carton/packaging. Each fitting may also be marked with the Standard Mark (ISI Mark). The manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark). The Bureau grants a license based on a successful assessment of a manufacturer's manufacturing infrastructure, production process, and quality control and testing capabilities during a visit to its manufacturing premises.
