BIS Certification for UPVC PIPE FITTINGS FOR USE WITH UPVC PIPES
IS 13593:1992

In this competitive scenario, it isn't easy to survive in the market without a standard quality and certified product. BIS license may also be required to sell products in the Indian market.

To get BIS certification and produce a standard quality product, the manufacturer must ensure that your product must follow the specified Indian standard. Let's take a closer look at IS 13593:1992 for UPVC Pipe Fittings.

UPVC pipe fittings for use with UPVC pipes in the suction and delivery lines of agricultural pumps are covered under IS 13593:1992. The BIS adopted this Indian Standard after the Civil Engineering Division Council approved the draft submitted by the Plastic Pipes and Fittings Sectional Committee. This specification covers the material, dimensions, quality, performance, and marking requirements for UPVC fittings used to prepare suction and delivery lines of agricultural pumps.

This specification covers the following types of UPVC fittings:

  • Couplers
  • Bends 90
  • End Pieces (or Tail Pieces)
  • Reducer Couplers
  • Male Threaded Pieces (MTPs)
  • Female Threaded Pieces (FTPs)
  • Reducer Threaded Pieces
  • End Piece Rings

Pipes used to make UPVC fittings must comply with IS 12231: 1987, except that threaded parts, must be made from thicker walled pipe. The internal and external surfaces of the fabricated fittings must be smooth and clean, free of grooving and other defects such as cracks, crazings, pinholes, foreign inclusions, and so on.

The fittings shall be classified by the pressure ratings (working pressure) at 27°C as follows:

Class of fitting Working pressure
1 W 0.4 MPa
2 W 0.6 MPa

The fitting shall be subjected to the following test:

  1. Acceptance Test
  2. Hydrostatic Test
  3. Vacuum Test
  4. Type Test

All fittings must be clearly and indelibly marked or embossed at a prominent place with the Manufacturer's name or Identification number, Fitting size, and class.

The Standard Mark (ISI Mark) may also be applied to each fitting. The Manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark). The Bureau grants a license based on a successful assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, production process, and quality control and testing capabilities during a visit to its manufacturing premises.
